Canadian
Society of Environmental Biologists
The
Canadian Society of Environmental Biologists is a non-profit registered
society primarily interested in the management of Canadian Natural
Resources based on sound ecological principles. The Society originated
in the late 1950's as a small group of canadian fish and wildlife
biologists. Today CSEB has progressed to encompass a wide range
of members whose interests lie within environmentally related biological
disciplines, such as wildlife, fishers, soils, zoology and limnology.
The members' training and professional outlook present an informed
view on problems in the management of Canada's natural environment.
The Society has chapters in eight geographic regions: Atlantic,
Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia
and the Territories.Our
mission...
- to further
the conservation and prudent management of Canada's natural resources
so as to minimize adverse environmental effects;
- to ensure
high professional standards in education, research and management
related to resources and the environment;
- to advance
education of the public and protect the public interest on matters
pertaining to the use of natural resources, and to the protection
and management of the environment;
- to undertake
environmental research and education programs of benefit to the
community;
- to assess
and evaluate administrative and legislative policies having ecological
significance in terms of the conservation of resources and the
quality of the environment;
- to develop
and promote policies that seek to achieve a balance among resource
management and utilization, protection of the environment and
the quality of life;
- to foster
liaisons among environmental biologists working towards a common
goal with governmental, industrial and educational frameworks
across Canada.
Public
Spaces Appreciation Society of Ontario
Public Spaces
is a not for profit environmental organization dedicated to promoting
stewardship and fostering a sense of community through the protection,
restoration and celebration of Ontario's public spaces. The group
was founded in 1995 and was formally incorporated in 1998.
The goals of our group are to:
- To protect
public places in urban areas
- To work
with agencies and private interests to help acquire additional
public space of strategic environmental and community importance
- To promote
issues of urban sustainability
- To host seminars
on how to make spaces more livable for the community
- To host meetings
and events that promote capacity building among members of the
local community
- To work with
landowners to promote private stewardship of their lands.
Conservation
Council of Ontario
The
Conservation Council of Ontario (CCO) is a non-government, charitable
organization with a mandate to promote cooperation for conservation
and a healthy environment in Ontario, Canada. Membership includes
both provincial organizations and individual members who support
our goal of a healthy environment, are committed to incorporating
environmental values into their own activities, and who wish to
work together to promote a province-wide, cooperative approach to
solving environmental problems. Our mission is to make Ontario a
conserver society. We seek to achieve this mission by promoting
conservation solutions, raising public awareness and building a
strong province-wide conservation movement.

We're on a mission - Environmental Defence protects
the environment and human health. We research. We educate. We go
to court when we have to. All in order to ensure clean air, safe
food and thriving ecosystems. Nationwide.

Society of Ecological Restoration
SER
Ontario is part of an international organization committed to
the ecologically sensitive repair and management of ecosystems.
While the focus of our efforts is the Ontario region, we strive
to share ideas and initiatives across borders and around the
globe.
Our mission: To promote the practice of ecological restoration
and provide educational opportunities and materials for members
and for the community at large. We, in collaboration with
the central SER body, are committed to the development of ecological
restoration as a science, art and conservation strategy.
ER Ontario currently includes members with a wide range of backgrounds
and interests who all share an active interest in ecological
restoration. Our membership includes ecologists, educators,
NGOs, writers, gardeners, designers, environmental consultants,
native plant growers, arborists & foresters, scientists
& researchers, natural resource managers and many others
who have simply cultivated an interest in ecological restoration.
